So it looks like Suge Knight and Co. have finally been taken out of their Chapter 11 misery since they were just bought yesterday by newcomer label Wide Awake Entertainment. Wide Awake is less than a year old and only has the release of one recording to their credit. They purchased Death Row Records for $18 million.
A while ago, it was assumed that the label would get bought out by Global Music or by either Warner Music Group or Koch but Global Music's investors couldn't pull it together and both Warner and Koch lost interest.
It's going to be interesting to see what these record company newbies (one who calls herself a soccer mom) are going to do with the rights to the Death Row catalog that includes: Dr. Dre's "The Chronic," Shakur's "All Eyez on Me" and Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle."
