LAKEVIEW TERRACE TRAILER

What do you think?

MERRY CHRISTMAS DEMOCRATS

John McCain finally picked his Vice President today and....he has to really be on something. After blasting Barack Obama for having no experience but being a State Senator he goes and selects an ex-beauty pagent winner from Alaska who's only been governor for the last 18 months? Someone who has 5 kids, wants to overturn Roe vs Wade, and has absolutely ZERO knowledge of foreign policy and she said this herself!! It's soo obvious that he's after these Hillary Clinton stans who still have yet to actually join the cause of the Democratic Party that they claim to be a part of.

As a woman, I'm completely offended and I think this further proves just how out of touch John McCain and the rest of these old Republican farts are with women. How dare you insult our intelligence and think that women were only voting for Hillary Clinton because she's a woman. The last time I checked, the women voters out here can read and write and comprehend just fine John McPain. And they tend to show up to the polls more often than men. I'm very disappointed at his choice and I think that it just further proves how much of a sucky President he would be!!!

WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT....

I know, I know, the worst photoshopped picture EVER but hey, I tried. This picture is pretty much what Barack Obama's speech felt like last night. He pretty much got into the arses of the Republican party with a right hook reminiscent of the one Muhammed Ali put on George Foreman in "The Rumble in the Jungle." I don't think folks thought Obama had it in him.

Barack had an intelligent rebuttal to each and every question (no matter how stupid) that the Republicans have raised about himself and the Democratic party over the last few months. And he did all this without even breaking a sweat or showing any real sign of pisstivity. He was as cool as a fan, straightforward, and even called out names. Was this Malcolm X or Barack Obama?

All week, the pundits have been talking about where's the red meat in this convention? Why aren't the speakers ripping John McSame and the Republican party....blah blah blah. Now they know why, Barack was keeping that job all to himself. My favorite line of the night:

"John McCain likes to say that he'll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell - but he won't even go to the cave where he lives."

Can we say Classic!! I bet even bin Laden was in his cave laughing manically at that one.

Click below to watch the brilliant speech that Barack orated last night as well as a list the LA Times put together with this weeks best one liners.

Best & worst of the DNC

By Los Angeles Times Staff Writers

Best: Defining one-liners

"If John McCain wants to follow George Bush with more tough talk and bad strategy, that is his choice, but it is not the change we need." - Barack Obama

"I stand here today at the cross-currents of that history knowing that my piece of the American Dream is a blessing hard won by those who came before me," - Michelle Obama

"No longer will the eight most dreaded words in the English language be: "The vice president's office is on the phone." - Joe Biden (alluding to the current VP Dick Cheney's dubious tenure)

"That campaign generated so much heat, it increased global warming." - Bill Clinton on the race for delegates between Hillary and Barack

"It makes perfect sense that George Bush and John McCain will be together next week in the Twin Cities, because these days they're awfully hard to tell apart." - Hilary Clinton

"To my supporters, to my champions -- to my sisterhood of the traveling pant suits -- from the bottom of my heart, thank you." - Hilary Clinton

"If I'm not mistaken, Hillary Clinton rocked the house last night." - Barack Obama on surprise visit to the DNC.

BLACK IN THE DAYZ

This week's black in the dayz trailer is from a movie that I'm really waiting on them to release on DVD..."Class Act." I think Kid and Play had so much on screen chemistry in all of the movies they did together and this one was no exception. Duncan's book smarts coupled with Blade's street smarts made for some really funny, fish-out-of-water type of interactions between the two.

This was just one of those fun but goofy 90's flicks that you can't help but watch every time it comes on television and is a reminder of a time when Hip-Hop was about having fun. Here's to hoping it'll be on DVD soon.

STEALING AMERICA: VOTE BY VOTE TRAILER

As if right on cue with the Democratic National Convention, I ran across this trailer for the upcoming documentary "Stealing America: Vote by Vote." The documentary takes a close look at the voting system in America which we all know can be pretty darn flawed. The synopsis is below and click here to go to the website for the film where they have upcoming screenings across the U.S. as well as an option to buy the DVD.
SYNOPSIS
Documentary highlighting the possible inaccuracies and potential for fraud around voting ballets in the US.

THE FIRST FAMILY OF HIP-HOP

Word is quickly spreading around that Reverend Run and Justine's new book "Take Back Your Family" has been selling like hotcakes. If you're like me, you just can't get enough of Run's House. I love this family and have to thank them for showing folks how a truly blended family can work.
I especially loved a few weeks ago when Run and Justine went on the Wendy Williams show to promote the book and Justine and Wendy started having girl talk while Run kept trying to turn the conversation back around to the book. He's definitely about his papers and so is pretty much the whole family.

ONCE AGAIN, SPIKE TELLS IT LIKE IT IS...
Why black folks continue to say dumb things about Barack Obama's candidacy is a mystery to me. Makes me think that maybe that whole crabs in a barrel theory really applies to some of us. Some fool, a DJ named Chuck T, went on MTV last week and had this to say about Obama.

"[Obama] has proven he's willing to turn on anyone just to be President. He's not black, he's biracial! And he wasn't even raised by black people ... Barack doesn't embody the values and characteristics we as black people are raised with."

So what happens next, Spike "Militant Man" Lee responds to the Daily News with the following remarks.

"First, I go by the ‘one-drop rule,'" he said in Denver, where he has come to see firsthand his man accept the Democratic nomination for President. "One drop [of black blood], and you're black. The truth is, every African-American is biracial. Go back far enough, and you'll find the massah was in the slave quarters."

Gotta love Spike for always keepin it 200 percent real. Click the picture above to read the rest of what Spike had to say, including a response to the whole Jesse Jackson fiasco from a couple of weeks ago.

"THE WIRE" UP FOR HUMANITAS"

HBO's "The Wire" is in the running for the 2008 Humanitas Prize in hour programming in television. According to the Humanitas website...

"We honor excellence in film & television writing. Stories that affirm the human person, probe the meaning of life, and enlighten the use of human freedom. The stories reveal common humanity, so that love may come to permeate the human family and help liberate, enrich and unify society."

Judging by the millions of die hard "Wire" fans out there, this show definitely fits into the criteria for this award. Congrats and good luck to the scribes of "The Wire." This sounds like the type of award that really means something.

CUBA IS 'GIFTED'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cuba Gooding Jr. is going to be portraying neurologist Ben Carson in the TNT original movie "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story." The movie, which is based on Carson's book, will begin with him as a frustrated inner-city kid and will show his journey into becoming the director of pediatric neurosurgery at John Hopkins University Hospital.
Dr. Carson has such an inspiring story. If you don't know about this man, you should definitely buy or check out his book. In the book, he describes his rough childhood while growing up in Detroit and his feelings of abandoment when his father abruptly left the family. Carson's mother pushed him to succed and through all the bad he turned out pretty darn good. He was recently named a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which President Bush presented to him this past June.
Knowing that Cuba is a pretty great actor has me excited to check this movie out early next year when it airs.

HILLARY ENDORSES OBAMA...AND THIS TIME SHE MEANS IT

Last night, television was all abuzz as to whether Hillary Clinton would be able to keep a straight face, or show any emotion at all, while trying to get her voters to finally take the blue pill and become Obama supporters. I was actually nervous for her. As a woman, I can totally respect the path she trailblazed by running for the highest office, but as a person who's been following this campaign for months now, I know how the media can rip apart, paraphrase, and overanalyze any and everything you say.

After Chelsea introduced her mom, I was still uncertain what to think but when Clinton mentioned that she was a supporter of Obama in the second line, I thought this is gonna be good. And good it was...Hillary even went as far as to use Harriet Tubman's struggles to free the slaves as a metaphor of how we have to keep pushing as a Democratic party in order to win the election. Gotta love that Black History moment!

Sadly, the Democratic lovefest was put on hold when CNN Reporter, Suzanne Malvo, decided to put a microphone up to some loony black woman who was a Delegate and avid Hillary supporter (stalker) who blabbed about the fact that she just couldn't get over the fact that Hillary wasn't gonna be the President and that she might not vote (although our ancestors fought and died for that right) and...you know what, I'll let you watch...

DNC DAY 3

Last night felt like the Olympics at the DNC in Denver. Folks were winning gold stars left and right for amped up speeches that got the massive crowd of Democrats riled up. I especially liked Gov. Brian Schweitzer. He was hillarious but was speaking nothing but the truth. Can't wait to see what happens when Bill Clinton speaks tonight and Obama on Thursday. Who knew politics could be so interesting.

THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES TRAILER

Short clips of this movie have been going around for some time now but finally here's the full trailer. The film stars Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Tristan Wilds, and Jennifer Hudson. Looks interesting but I don't know about going to see this because the bad Carolina accents are throwing me. Anyhoo, the movie comes out October 17th. Below is the synopsis.

SYNOPSIS

Set in South Carolina in 1964, the film is the moving tale of Lily Owens a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father, Lily flees with Rosaleen, her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping, honey and the Black Madonna.

PERRY GETS A NEW SHOW

Though I've been hearing about this for months now, the ink has finally been signed on the papers for Tyler Perry's TV version of his play-movie "Meet the Browns." According to Variety, "TBS has commissioned 10 half-hours of "Meet the Browns," which stars David Mann as Leroy Brown, with Perry as exec producer and director. "Meet the Browns" is going to tape in Perry's massive studio he built in Atlanta.
If the 10 episodes work out when they begin airing in January '09, Perry will do 90 more episodes for TBS to run next summer. Early details suggest that the show will be set in a boarding house and will feature a bunch of "colorful African-American characters."
On another note, Variety reports that Tyler's previous show, "The House of Payne" could end up grossing more than $200 million in its first cycle through 2012.
With all these millions being thrown around, one would think that Hollywood would be seeking some BLACK themed projects but yet and still we don't have much to look forward to this television season. So sad...

MICHELLE OBAMA: WHAT A LADY

Last night, after watching Michelle Obama's "One Nation" speech, I found myself in tears for more reasons than one. I felt like FINALLY, we have a black woman, a young, educated and fully dressed black woman (who isn't shaking her booty or snaking her neck), that's going to be talked about for weeks and years to come for this historic and brilliant night.
Michelle stood before that crowd of people from different races, from different places and made those folks see what the media never seems to portray when it comes to us...yes black people are different but no we're really not all that different when it comes to having family values and striving to achieve the "American Dream."
If folks think that Hillary Clinton left 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling for women, then last night Michelle Obama bulldozed away at those cracks for women and more specifically for the black women in American who are often stereotyped into oblivion. Last night, Michelle Obama became a hero to millions of struggling sistas out here who go to bat daily with these negative stereotypes that the media quite frequently portrays.
Michelle showed that she's a beautiful mother, sister, daughter, wife who has struggled and worked extremely hard to make her life into what it is today. I don't know about the other sistas out there but she has most certainly inspired me and makes me want to work even harder to reach my goals.
Now if we could just get a few more Barack-types out here the black community just might find the strength to finally come together and arrive at the level of greatness that is destined for us.

WALKING ON DEAD FISH TRAILER

This is an interesting documentary that's coming out on September 5th. Below is the heartwrenching details of what it's all about. I still can't wrap my mind around what happened in New Orleans and what is still happening or better yet, not happening down there.

SYNOPSIS
Terry Bradshaw executive produces and narrates this heartwarming documentary about a high school football team that takes in 20 rival players after their schools (and homes) are devastated by Hurricane Katrina. When the coach declares that all positions are open, even those held by seniors, the new students are grateful but the others worry that their playing time, and chances for college scholarships, are in jeopardy.

But rather than turn bitter, or focus on the racial and economic differences between them, the young men band together to form a new team. They learn to play together (and begin winning), and they help to heal the storm-battered town in the process. Filled with great characters, touching stories, and some fantastic high school football, WALKING ON DEAD FISH is a film that will inspire all ages and renew faith in the promise of today’s youth.

DNCC DAY 2

Click the picture to view the schedule for day two and for a list of who's speaking. Last night was great! Tonight it's going to be interesting to see if Hillary Clinton really steps her game up and gets behind Obama with a straight face. Especially since her and a lot of her followers have been acting like sore losers since the primaries ended.

Right now, from the way the media portrays it, John McCain and the Republicans like Obama more than Hillary does and that's definitely not a good thing. I mean, I know the Clinton's aint used to losing but dang...straighten up and put on a happy face for the sake of the Democratic Party. Instead of hearing about Barack Obama and his historic week, all the media is talking about is how divided the party is. Almost feels like modern day segregation when all she had to do was host a press conference to address all this crap the media is left to spin like a top.
Patiently waiting on tonight...
