RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL

Okay I like watching Jon Stewart from time to time. He's probably one of the few people on television who's about as sarcastic as me. So while watching this clip from his show, I found most of it to be laughable and just regular Jon Stewart.

However, at the end of this clip, I found some of the most offensive s&%* I've heard since I left the Jim Crow south. So for those of you who aren't aware of what goes on in the south, what some white people still think about blacks, or why it's gonna be a heck of a feat to get Barack Obama elected next month...heregoes.

PLEASE, PLEASE REGISTER TO VOTE!!!!

I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change.
I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see.
I'm going to show them a world ... without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible.
Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

BALLAST TRAILER

SYNOPSIS

In the cold, winter light of a rural Mississippi Delta township, a man’s suicide radically transforms three characters’ lives and throws off-balance what has long been a static arrangement among them. Marlee is a single mother struggling to scratch a living for herself and James, her 12-year-old son, who has begun to stumble under drug and violence pressures. So when the opportunity to seek safe harbor at a new home arises, she grabs it, though the property is shared by Lawrence, a man with whom Marlee has feuded bitterly since James’s birth. With circumstances thrusting them into proximity, a subtle interdependence and common purpose emerge for Marlee and Lawrence as they navigate grief, test new waters, and tentatively move forward.

NEW SPIKE LEE FLICK CAUSES BACKLASH

Variety is reporting that Spike Lee's newest film "Miracle at St. Anna" is causing a bit of a problem with folks in Italy. In the film, which spotlights the role of African-American soldiers in WWII, a partisan named Rodolfo collaborates with the Nazis, indirectly sparking the slaughter.
This aspect of Lee's "St. Anna" has incensed partisan veteran orgs, which fear it could fuel a "revisionist" backlash, as former partisan Moreno Costa told Corriere della Sera.

Apparently the writer of the novel and the screenplay, John McBride, is apologetic to the partisian veteran organizations and states that "this is a fictional story." However Spike, being Spike was unapologetic.
His response, "I am not apologizing for anything. I think these questions are evidence that there is still a lot about your history during the war that you (Italians) have got to come to grips with. "This film is no clear picture of what happened. It is our interpretation, and I stand behind it."
Gotta love Spike.

HERE COME THE MEN IN BLACK 3??

Rumors are circulating around Hollywood about a potential Men in Black 3 in the future. According to Moviehole.com, a source close to producer Walter F. Parkes recently told Parade Magazine that if time permits in Will and Tommy Lee's schedule and if they get a good script going, there will likely be a Men in Black 3.

I can't even remember what happened in the sequel but money is money. Perhaps they're looking for a nice young lady from NC to write the script...just a thought.

NIECY GETS AXED

It looks like Niecy Nash's new show "Do Not Disturb" has become one of the first casualties of the new television season of Fox. After airing for just three episodes and pulling in about 4 Million viewers, Fox pulled the show and later confessed that they were cancelling it. I feel bad for not even catching the show to be able to give an opinion.

Please leave a comment if you checked it out and tell me what you thought about it.

BLACK IN THE DAYS

So for today's Black in the Days throwback we have the movie "Greased Lightning" starring Richard Pryor and Pam Grier. I'm a major fan of Richard Pryor and his movie "Moving" is like my all time favorite movie. However, this movie I didn't get to see until recently when I discovered that I owned it by default as it came on the second side of my "Moving" dvd.
"Greased Lightning" is a pretty cool movie that tells a story loosely based on the life of the first black stock car racer in America, Wendell Scott. Richard was crazy as always in this and Pam got to show her soft side. I'm thinking this movie was made right around the time they used to date. If you want to check out some serious throwback theater, you should definitely rent this one. Richard is a hoot!

I AM LEGEND 2

After all the bad reviews I've heard about this movie, it's suprising to me that it was announced yesterday that there will be a part two to "I Am Legend." But I guess after making $584 Million worldwide, with the majority of the cast being a man and a dog, Warner Bros. figured why not. I managed to get my hands on the treatment for part two a few weeks ago and it sounds a lot more interesting than the first part and actually includes other characters so this time Will won't be alone.
According to Variety, The prequel will chronicle the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith’s character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.

LADY O JOINS "THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG"

Reports are surfacing today that Oprah Winfrey has joined the cast of "The Princess and the Frog." Winfrey will play the character of Eudora, the mother of the main character, Princess Tiana, voiced by Anika Noni Rose. The film will be released late in the year 2009. I just hope that Oprah makes them get rid of that snaggle toothed firefly from the trailer that reeks of some racist undertones.

NOTORIOUS TRAILER

This one looks interesting. I gotta admit, the music got me hype. I was and still am a big fan of Biggie Smalls. Looking at this trailer just makes me wonder what would Hip-Hop be if he was still here. The movie comes out in January and stars Angela Bassett, Derek Luke, and newcomer Jamal Woolard.

SYNOPSIS

The life and death story of Notorious B.I.G. (a.k.a. Christopher Wallace), who came straight out of Brooklyn to take the world of rap music by storm.

KANYE GETS CREATIVE FOR THE TUBE

Okay, I must first say that I never thought I would be reporting about some dangone Muppets twice in the same day but there seems to be a whole lotta nothing happening in Hollywood these days and therefore Muppets it is. According to the Hollywood Reporter, my boy Kanyeezy has teamed up with Comedy Central for an upcoming project that is described as hip-hop meets the Muppets.
Yes folks I said it, hip-hop and Muppets in the same sentence. Apparently, a half-hour pilot has been shot for the project, tentatively titled "Alligator Boots." The show, which is under consideration for 2009, would feature music produced and performed by West and fellow rapper Rhymefest, both of whom are serving as executive producers on the pilot. West also hosts the pilot; the idea is to have a different celebrity guest host for every episode, similar to the setup on the original "Muppet Show."
Sigh...to be young, black, and in Hollywood.
