"THE CLEVELAND SHOW" GETS BIG RATINGS

Fox's new "The Cleveland Show" scored pretty big this past Sunday night for it's debut. They scored 9.4 million viewers making it one of the top comedy debut's thus far this season.

In not so good news, the Fox show "Brothers," the only all-black comedy on all of network television this season, only scored around one million viewers. They showed back to back showings of the show on Friday night from 8-9pm but they got a bump in ratings on Sunday repeat that followed an NFL game.

ACTRESS ESSENCE ATKINS MARRIES HER COMPUTER LOVE

This past weekend has been the weekend of weddings. People Magazine is reporting that "Half and Half" actress Essence Atkins married her beau Jaime Mendez in Pasadena, Calif., on Saturday. It was a match made in Internet heaven.

The couple tied the knot at the Ambassador Mansion and Gardens and initially met on Match.com on Valentine’s Day of last year.

"I wrote him a quick little note that I had read his profile, and then I signed off, Happy SAD Day – that's Single Awareness Day," says Essence, 37.

A week later the couple went on their first date, and they were engaged a year later.

The bride wore a Stephen Yearick gown for the ceremony and an Angel Rivera dress for the reception. "I felt like a princess," she says.

Her former costar Valerie Pettiford performed original music at the reception. Plus, the bride surprised her husband with a salsa band to celebrate his Puerto Rican heritage.

"We've been taking salsa lessons. It's part of what we’ve been doing together as a couple," she says.

The menu, created by chef G. Garvin, blended Puerto Rican and traditional soul food dishes, which included mac and cheese, roasted pork, peach cobbler and plantains.

As party favors, guests received match books and travel-sized candles. But singles guests were given six-month memberships to Match.com.

"When people leave, I want them to feel like they ate well, that they had fun, that they enjoyed themselves and they were there to celebrate a union."

I'm really hoping my single friends are reading this who've been considering online dating. It's funny cause my beau and I went on our first date a few months ago and Essence and Jamie sat at the very next table. Hmmm...
Congrats Essence and Jamie.

MELANIE FIONA "IT KILLS ME"

Really digging this song and video by newcomer vocalist Melanie Fiona. The video features the sexiness that is Adam Rodriguez. I liked Melanie's first single "Give it to me Right" and wasn't sure if her follow up would be as strong but this is a real soulful track. Something interesting about Ms. Fiona is that I hear she used to be in a group with actor turned rapper Drake.

Also, check out the video below of Melanie singing Kanye's Heartless for a mixtape with ?uestlove from the Roots. This chick can sang.

DIDDY STEPS OUT ON WARNER BROS.

After spending five years at Warner Music Group/Atlantic Records, Sean "Diddy" Combs confirmed to Billboard that he is exiting his exclusive deal with the company at the end of September.

A new, not yet officially announced deal is in place, according to his spokeswoman.

The joint venture with Warner Music Group for the current roster and catalog of Combs' Bad Boy label will remain in place.

"Now that the term of the Warner deal has ended, I have elected to accept an opportunity to move my recording career and future label venture to another company," Combs said in a statement.

Combs' spokeswoman would not confirm which label he will be partnering with, though reports have said a deal is in place for his next album, "Last Train to Paris," to be released by Interscope Records.

The single album Diddy released through the WMG agreement, 2006's "Press Play," has sold 703,000 units to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

JACKSON SELLS OUT IN 2 HOURS

Advance screenings to the music documentary “Michael Jackson: This Is It” sold out within two hours early Sunday. Silly people (fans) began lining up three days ago and recieved all 3,000 tickets to the Los Angeles shows.

The documentary opens nationwide Oct. 28, but fans will get a sneak peek the night BEFORE in screenings at the new Regal Cinemas Stadium 14. For the theater’s grand opening, the cinema will show “This Is It” on all 14 screens that night.

Directed by longtime Jackson collaborator Kenny Ortega, “This Is It” draws on hundreds of hours of footage as Jackson prepared for a series of London concerts for which he was rehearsing before his death on June 25.
I tell you I'm beginning to think that folks in LA are just looking for an excuse to get together and talk because this doesn't make ANY sense. Sleeping outside for tickets to go to go see a move a whopping 24 hours earlier than it's scheduled to come out...(scratches head)

BLACK IN THE DAYS...

This week's Black in The Day movie was one that I grew up watching and always thought was so sad. "Sparkle" taught me so many lessons as a young girl. Lesson's like don't do drugs, don't let a man beat on you, and Philip Michael Thomas is fine. This movie had a wonderful soundtrack that meshed so well with the film, courtesy of Curtis Mayfield (boy does music miss that man). Anyhoo, if you've never seen "Sparkle," this is one 70's flick you MUST see.

"MAMA I WANT TO SING" NEW TRAILER

This doesn't look halfway bad and Ciara doesn't appear to be a bad actress in these clips. The film was supposed to come out into the theaters but as with most black movies these days that don't have Tyler Perry's name in the title, it's going straight to DVD.

"BOOGIE TOWN" TRAILER

Interesting little trailer I came across yesterday. It looks like a Matrixy version of "You Got Served" and was directed by Chris Stokes. Boogie Town? They really could have come up with a better title than that but oh well.

SYNOPSIS

The movie takes place in New York City, in the year 2015, where there is no violence, and Battle Dancing has become very popular in the secret underground city known as Boogie Town . This is a story of two rival dance crews. One of the crews ("The Trojans") is lead by Marco (Marques Houston). The rival crew ("The Warriors") is lead by (Dante Basco). The films Leading Lady is the beautiful Brenda Song.

BET Personality, journalist, and public speaker, Jeff Johnson, recently released his debut book entitled “Everything I’m Not Made Me Everything I Am.” In the book, Johnson shares strategies of discovering yourself by uncovering who you are not.

The title of the book is inspired by the Kanye West song of the same title, but the philosophy is inspired by the author’s belief that everyone needs to attempt to become our personal best by shaking off labels of expectations and be the sum of all our parts.

The book is in stores now as well as Amazon.com and if you click the picture above you'll be taken to the Amazon listing.

THIS WEEKEND AT THE BOX OFFICE...

This weekend at the box office the number one film as expected was "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" which brought in $30.1 Million.

In at number 2 was the Matt Damon film "The Informant!" which brought in $10.5 Million.

Coming in just short of a tie was "I Can Do Bad All by Myself" which brought in $10.1 Million.

Rolling into fourth place with great disappointment I'm sure was Jennifer Anniston's "Love Happens" which brought in $8.46 Million.

Rounding out the top five is with a great disappointment to Diablo Cody and Co. who produced "Jennifer's Body" which was pretty much a flop by bringing in $6.8 Million.
