WHY I'M THANKFUL...

Gotta love this. The Obama's spent today giving out chickens to the needy at a church in Chicago. It turns out they were in viewing distance of the school across the street and when the kids saw him they quickly made the sign above and began screaming when our President-Elect waved in their direction. What does Obama do...he casually hints to Michelle that they should go visit the kids.
One secret service sweep of the building and he's engulfed in this overwhelming display of love by the kiddies. All I can say is awwwww....

NE-YO GETS 'MAD'

Check out Ne-Yo's new video for his new single "Mad." I could think of like four other songs from his album that he could have released other than this one but this is a cool track. However, watching this video is a bit weird since a few months ago I suggested this exact concept to a friend who was looking for an idea for a five minute short film.

"A GOOD DAY TO BE BLACK AND SEXY" TRAILER

Okay, so I just stumbled upon the trailer for this indie flick that was an Official Selection in Sundance and AFI. After taking a look, I'm still unsure what it's actually about. However, I feel obligated to post it. It's supposed to be released into limited theaters on December 5th, and for all of my LA readers, it's gonna be playing at The Bridge. Below is the synopsis.

SYNOPSIS

A between-the-sheets peek at Black Love and Sexuality.

RIHANNA GETS SOME 'REHAB'

Check out the new Rihanna video for her latest release from her last album that seems to have been out for what feels like two years now. The video features Justin Timberlake, the writer of the song and the main culprit in the Janet Jackson nipplegate fiasco. The video isn't too interesting but I like some of the shots so I'm posting it.

I'm really beginning to wonder if any of these pop star chicks own a pair of pants cause they all seem to be walking around half nude in their videos and performances.

CEDRIC ENTERTAINS NO MORE...ON BROADWAY

After just 8 shows, David Mamet's revival of his Broadway play "American Buffalo," starring Cedric the Entertainer, has been cancelled. Actually a majority of Broadway shows are being shut down since the economy is pretty much in the crapper. However, Mamet's production was getting slammed with negative reviews and was promptly closed.

"CADILLAC RECORDS" PREMIERE

Last night the premiere of the upcoming film "Cadillac Records" went down at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. I see Mrs. Carter finally decided to wear that multi-million wedding ring Jay-Z bought. Looks like fun times were had by all. The film is scheduled to be released on December 5th. Click below for more pics.

WILL SMITH DISCOVER'S SCIENCE

Can I just say that I really love my Uncle Will for this. He always injects himself into smart projects and makes them better. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will's production company, Overbrook, is stepping in to produce the upcoming Science Channel's "Young Scientist Challenge." The show has been going on for 10 years now but I get the feeling that with Will aboard, it's gonna get some much needed attention.

The show is set to air on January 18th (two days before the inaugaration I might add).

"YSC" will chronicle the journey of 10 middle school students -- selected from thousands of applicants nationwide -- from their hometowns to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Washington, where they will compete in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge.

Tied to NASA's 50th anniversary, the theme of the competition this year is "The Science of Space." The finalists will face off in mini-competitions, scientific presentations and an innovation challenge for the top prize: a $50,000 savings bond and the title of America's Top Young Scientist.

I must say, as a Space Camp alum, I can truly appreciate this. Kudos to Will and his partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz for stepping up to make this a really big deal.

2008 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

As you can probably tell by the photo above, the 2008 AMA's were pretty much a snoozefest. Standouts last night were Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys, and oddly enough, New Kids on the Block. Hey, I'ma sucker for "The Right Stuff." Otherwise, the show pretty much felt like the Disney Teen Awards with all of the teeny bopper performances. Anyhoo, check out more pics below.
