RASHAD RETURNS TO BROADWAY

Accoding to Variety, Phylicia Rashad will step into the role of pitiless matriarch Violet Weston in the Broadway production of "August: Osage County."
Rashad follows in the footsteps of Deanna Dunagan, who created the part in a Tony-winning turn, and Estelle Parsons, who played the role when Dunagan left. (Parsons will reprise her perf as Violet in the upcoming national tour of "August.")

Rashad's casting is color-blind, with no attempts made to match the races of the cast members, who mostly play members of an extended family.

Rashad is set to join the cast, which includes Elizabeth Ashley and John Cullum, on May 26.
