So Hollywood publicist turned director Ava Duvernay recently hosted a screening in LA for the above Hip-Hop documentary she directed. The feature length documentary, "This is The Life," chronicles "The Good Life" emcees, the alternative music movement they developed, and their worldwide influence on the artform. Two of the most notable crews that grew out of this movement Freestyle Fellowship and Jurassic 5 are also featured in interviews in the film.
Not sure if you all remember but this movement developed from the Good Life, a South L.A. health food store and was prominently shown in the good but short lived tv series "South Central" that starred Larenz Tate. As you can tell from the clip above, it was all about the positive side of Hip-Hop, something that's terribly missed today.
