SMOLLETT AND BRYANT JOIN NBC SHOWS

Actresses Jurnee Smollett and Joy Bryant are showing off their acting chops for NBC. Joy Bryant ("Antwone Fisher") has joined the cast of the new drama "Parenthood." Jurnee Smollett ("The Great Debaters") has been cast to appear on "Friday Night Lights."

On "Parenthood," Bryant will play Jasmine, a sexy single mom who moves back to the Bay Area to give her professional dance career a second try and to introduce her 5-year-old son, the product of a fling, to his father. While over at "Friday Night Lights," Smollett will play Jess, the daughter of a onetime NFL hopeful who knows the game and helps raise her siblings with the help of her father.
