At the age of 14, William Kamkwamba dropped out of school because his family was too poor to send him to school and there was conflict happening in his country of Malawi. Instead of just settling for the okey doke, William started going to the library and looking in books that were written in English. Not being able to read the language, he used the pictures to assist him with building a windmill in his front yard.
There's a book on his story entitled "The Boy Who Harnassed The Wind." William who is now 22 and is attending school and prepping for his SAT's. Above John Stewart talks with William about his invention and what his plans are for the future. Parent's be sure to show this to your kids, this is such an inspirational story.
