THE NEW YEAR...

Just wanted to tell everyone to have a safe and super fanatastic New Year's Eve. I hope wherever you are you have a blast. Me, I always plan to go out to some party but usually end up laying on the couch eating cupcakes. More than likely that'll be the way I ring in 2009. That and a prayer that '09 is gonna bring us all the manifestation of our hopes and dreams.

Let the countdown begin...

TIME WARNER VS VIACOM

To all of you Timewarner subscribers out there, you may be losing a few channels due to an ongoing dispute between Time Warner and Viacom. According to Viacom Inc., Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and 16 other channels will go dark on Time Warner Cable Inc. at 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a new carriage fee deal is not agreed upon by then.

Viacom has asked for fee increases of between 22 percent and 36 percent per channel, an amount that could increase customers' cable bills, spokesman Alex Dudley said. Viacom spokeswoman Kelly McAndrew said the requested increase was in the very low double-digit percentage range.

Time Warner claims that they're standing up for their customers by not increasing their bills. However Viacom on the other hand says that Time Warner Cable has so greatly undervalued our channels for so long and that's why they're making said demands...Drama!

So, folks who might be bringing in the New Year watching any of the following channel's, you may want to have a back up channel to watch at 12:01 a.m...

The channels that would be affected are: Comedy Central, CMT: Pure Country, Logo, Palladia, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, MTV Tr3s, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Spike, The N, TV Land, VH1, VH1 Classic, and VH1 Soul.

IN MEMORY OF EARTHA KITT

I'm sure you've heard by now of the passing of famed, multi-talented, self proclaimed sex kitten, Eartha Kitt. She was 81 and died on Christmas day after a two year battle with colon cancer. Apparently the cancer had been in remission and Ms. Kitt had been performing up until two months ago.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kitt earned a Tony nomination for the musical "Timbuktu!" a black version of "Kismet," which opened on Broadway in 1978. In 2000, she earned a Tony nom, for best actress in a feature role in a musical, for "The Wild Party."For her TV work, Kitt was nominated for an Emmy in 1966 for her leading role on "I Spy." She also has won daytime Emmys the past two years, for outstanding performer in an animated program, for her voice role in Disney Channel's "The Emperor's New School."

If you've never heard her story, you should definitely check it out. It's very interesting. Below are a few clips of some of her work. R.I.P. Eartha.

BLACK IN THE DAYS

This week's Black in the Days movie was a classic based upon the cast alone. Redd Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Della Reese - you just couldn't have dreamed of a better cast to bring this funny throwback gangsta flick to life. "Harlem Nights" was funny, serious, and even dramatic.

This movie was one of the final films that Pryor would act in before his Multiple Sclerosis would debilitate him to the point where he was confined to a wheelchair. It was also Foxx's final film before he died in '91. And it was one of Eddie's last films where he had a cast that didn't consist of him playing every character in drag.

TWO COSBY KIDS SHACKING UP?

Earlier this week it was announced that Fox Reality Channel has greenlit a production of it's newest series "Househusbands of Hollywood." The nine episode, one hour series is slated to premiere in August 2009. The series is supposedly going to showcase the lives of five men and their breadwinning wives.

What's most interesting about this new show is it's lone black couple...actors Tempestt Bledsoe (The Cosby Show) and Darryl M. Bell (A Different World) who I was very suprised to see listed. WHO KNEW THEY WERE A COUPLE? Apparently the two are the only couple on the show who aren't married but are just "playing house."

Other couples on the show are: former Los Angeles Dodger Billy Ashley, married to successful celebrity makeup artist Lisa Ashley; aspiring actor Danny Barclay and his wife Katherine Barclay, a high-powered Hollywood attorney; and former Marine Corps sniper Grant Reynolds, husband of Jillian Reynolds, of "FOX NFL Sunday" and "Good Day LA."
This show is definitely gonna be interesting to watch.

OPRAH'S NEW DEAL

I'll bet there's an ABC Executive somewhere pissed off behind this one. According to Variety, Oprah has entered into an exclusive output pact with HBO to develop and produce scripted series, minis, docs and movies for the pay cabler.

This deal comes at the conclusion of Harpo's exclusive output pact with ABC, an arrangement that produced telepics including last year's "Oprah Winfrey Presents: Mitch Albom's For One More Day."

The HBO arrangement covers made-for TV programming and not theatrical properties, such as last year's Harpo-produced "Great Debaters."

TRACY MORGAN PRODUCES "ROOMATES"

Funnyman Tracy Morgan is keeping it on the up and up by producing and starring in a new comedy "Freshman Roomates" for Montecito and Paramount Pictures.

According to Variety, TJ Miller ("Cloverfield") will also star in the film that is inspired by the proliferation of email scams purporting to be sent by a Nigerian prince looking for help in accessing his fortune.

"Freshman Roommates" asks the question what if one of the emails isn't a scam. Story kicks off when a young man answers one such email during a drunken stupor. Soon thereafter, the spoiled son of a deposed African dictator (Morgan) shows up at his door, looking to secure his inheritance.
I don't know about this one guys. I mean maybe it's just me but it seems like every film Tracy is in, there's some kind of scam or unlawful behavior. But maybe this one will suprise me and turn out to be something else.
